Assam Congress Leader Pranjal Ghatowar To Possibly Join BJP Today

Guwahati: Assam Congress leader Pranjal Ghatowar is all set to join the saffron party on Sunday.

The young politician is the son of veteran Congress leader Paban Singh Ghatowar. Pranjal Ghatowar had recently contested in the Assam Assembly Elections 2021 from the Moran constituency but has lost against the BJP candidate from the constituency.

As per reports, the Assam BJP president will be present to witness Pranjal Ghatowar join BJP on Sunday.

It is to be noted that Pranjal Ghatowar will be the third leader of the Assam Congress to join the BJP after the assembly elections. Previously, the Assam Congress had to let go of its prominent leaders Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain who had joined the BJP. 

Back in August, former Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi had quit the Congress party. Addressing the matter, he said, "I'm leaving Congress as High Command in Delhi & Guwahati leaders give priority to elderly leaders only. We'd told them Congress has good chance of coming to power this time & we shouldn't forge alliance with AIUDF as it would be a mistake."

Rupjyoti Kurmi had won the Assam Assembly Elections 2021 from Mariani. He represents the tea-tribe community.
