DIPHU: In a significant development, a consultation meeting was conducted on Saturday, March 8, in the conference hall of the Arboretum-cum-Craft Centre in Diphu's Matipung, Karbi Anglong, regarding Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance's plans to build a biogas plant. The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, recently hosted in Guwahati, paved the way for this proposed biogas plant.
Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), chaired the consultation, which was attended by various stakeholders, including students, youth and women’s organizations, intellectuals, political parties and individuals.
Ronghang gave a quick overview of the benefits of the biogas plant during his speech at the event, highlight that this mega-project will generate employment opportunities for the local population. He also underscored the financial scope for villagers possessing land as they could grow the grass required for the plant.
JI Kathar, president of the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), strongly objected to the idea of leasing land to Reliance. Kathar stated that “some people misunderstand that lease and patta are different, but they essentially mean the same thing. A lease means giving away land to someone else.”
Khorsing Teron, chairman of the Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS), stated that the KAAC's detailed plans to lease land to the company should be revealed first.
