BAKSA: A heated altercation between the Lavadanguri police and a picnic party near Assam's Manas National Park in Kahitama village has sparked outrage after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The dispute took place during a New Year's Day celebration organized by locals near the park. Eyewitnesses claimed that the confrontation began when confusion arose between forest guards from the Kahitama forest office and the picnickers. Based on information from the forest guards, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge Bhavani Kant Deka was dispatched to the location.

The situation quickly escalated when the police allegedly began assaulting members of the picnic group without questioning them, leading to a physical confrontation. Videos of the incident, which have been widely shared online, shows a chaotic scene in which the picnickers retaliated against the alleged police assault.

The victims have since called on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Director General of Police GP Singh to conduct a thorough investigation and take action against the officers involved.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, a young man who had gone on a picnic with his friends went missing from Afalamukh Ghat, a well-known tourist spot in Assam's Majuli district.

The missing individual had been identified as Pinku Hazarika. According to reports, some belongings of the missing person were found on a boat.
