GUWAHATI: Assam's very own banking institution, the Assam Cooperative Apex Bank Limited is celebrating its 75th anniversary of service to the people of the state. The event was organised in the PWD Convention Centre in Guwahati and attended by the chief minister of Assam on December 7.

The bank was formed on October 20, 1948, and has been working towards the growth of the state ever since.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM mentioned how the union system crippled the functioning of the bank and prevented its growth with the development of the state while mentioning about the customers' perspective towards the bank. He added that there should be only one union in the organisation that works behind the curtains and prevents any discrepancies in its functioning. He asked the officials of the organisation to work with the goal of attaining the status of a nationalised back in the future.

He also asked the bank to develop a local customer so as to increase its transactions. He also asked the organisation to onboard a legal team to handle the internal and external problems of the organisation and called for the proper audit of the bank in a transparent manner to increase its trustworthiness. Mentioning that the state is growing at a rate of 12% every year except the covid years, he asked the bank to maintain, if not exceed that number.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also distributed appointment letters to 100 new recruits of the bank. He also flagged off two vehicles equipped with ATMs for service to the customers.
