GUWAHATI: Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani has been sent to 5-day police custody once again soon after his release from the previous case.

On Tuesday a local court in the Barpeta district of Assam announced 5-day police custody for the accused MLA and rejected his bail plea.

On Monday 25 April, the MLA was re-arrested by the Barpeta police right after getting bail from the case registered in Assam's Kokrajhar Police Station.

Mevani this time has been arrested in connection with an assault case where he is accused of assaulting a woman police official in Assam.

As per reports, the complaint against the Gujarat MLA was filed in Barpeta according to which Mevani allegedly assaulted a lady cop who was accompanying him from Guwahati Airport to Kokrajhar when he was brought from Gujarat directly over the previous case.

He was booked under IPC section 323 (voluntarily causing harm), section 354 (using criminal force on a woman), section 294 (uttering obscene words in public) and section 353 (assaulting a public servant)

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Kokrajhar district on Monday granted bail to the Gujarat MLA from his case of offensive tweets against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the previous week, the Assam police picked up the independent MLA from Palanpur of Gujarat and brought him directly to the Kokrajhar Police Station.

He was charged with several relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and IT (Information Technology) Act for posting abusive tweets against the PM.

It may be mentioned that since the last few days the Gujarat MLA has been making headlines for various reasons whether it be his repeated arrest or his 'Jhekega Nehi' move from the superhit movie 'Pushpa: The Rise' starring Allu Arjun.

He greets the media persons with the move while leaving Assam court after the Kokrajhar police granted him bail.
