Assam: Covid Positivity Rate Surpasses 10%; First Death After Several Months

The caseload in the state, which has been witnessing an increase in Covid-19 cases since mid-June, has risen and it currently stands at 7,25,950.

Guwahati: The state of Assam has recorded the highest single-day spike of Covid-19 in around five months on July 7 and it comes after 273 people contracted the virus.

A fresh casualty has also been reported due to Covid in the state on July 7 and this covid-induced death has been recorded after a long period of time.

The caseload in the state, which has been witnessing an increase in Covid-19 cases since mid-June, has risen and it currently stands at 7,25,950.

The positivity rate has also gone up north and is now hovering above 10.38%.

Of the 273 fresh cases recorded in the state on July 7, the highest number of fresh infections was reported from Kamrup Metropolitan district, which primarily comprises Guwahati city, with 100 new cases.

The total active cases in the state is currently clocked at 1138.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Dr Abhijit Sarma, on July 5, urged the people to follow all the Covid-19 protocols and refrain from violating it.

He also requested the people to take the third dose or the booster dose of the vaccine as soon as possible.

Dr Sarma said, "A large chunk of the population is yet to take the third dose of Covid-19 vaccine. I urge them to take the booster dose at the earliest."

The GMCH superintendent also mentioned that fever was found to be one of the most common symptoms among maximum patients who tested positive for the virus.
