HOJAI: A fatal accident took place in the Kharikhana region of Lanka in Assam's Hojai district when a speeding tipper truck carrying sand ran over and killed a 60-year-old cyclist identified as Alim Uddin Majumdar. The tragic accident occurred when the truck collided with Majumdar and then drove away, leaving the victim with critical injuries.

Eyewitnesses said that Majumdar died from his injuries before any medical help could reach him. The incident has sparked outrage among people in the area, who for a long time have been complaining about the careless driving of sand-laden trucks and dumpers on the roads. Many claim that the truck involved in the accident was speeding and was driven carelessly.

For several days, numerous sand-laden vehicles have been traversing the Mathauri road, which connects Kharikhana to Kapilipar, creating a hazardous environment for pedestrians and other road users. Despite repeated appeals to local authorities, residents have struggled to halt the reckless behavior of these trucks.

Tensions heightened when police turned up at the scene, as locals protested and blocked the ambulance carrying the body of the victim for a considerable amount of time. The situation was finally controlled with the help of local village volunteers, enabling the ambulance to move forward. Authorities are now under pressure to act on the safety concerns raised by the community over heavy vehicle traffic in the area.
