JAMUGURIHAT: A devastating fire broke out in the kitchen of a woman named Leela Maya Devi, a resident of Bihari Basti, Karaiyani on the southern part of Sootea and the barn adjacent to the kitchen in the area on Saturday night. The neighbours and the residents of the house tried to extinguish the fire but were forced to retreat as there was a cooking gas cylinder inside the kitchen. The fire broke out and immediately engulfed the kitchen and the barn, resulting in the killing of three goats and a cow besides a good number of chickens, ducks, and pigeons. Two other cows of the barn were burnt partially by the deadly fire. A team of veterinary doctors from Sootea reached the site and provided primary treatment to the injured cows. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
