KOKRAJHAR: In a tragic incident late Monday night at around 1am, a massive fire broke out at No. 1 Boruapara in Bhawraguri, Gossaigaon, reducing the livelihood of a widow named Protima Barman to ashes.

The fire completely gutted her small tea shop, along with essential household items including rice, grains, and betel nuts-causing a loss estimated to be over Rs 5 lakh.

Important documents, including her ration card, and a sum of Rs 46,000 in cash were also destroyed in the blaze.

Despite attempts to contact the fire services, no assistance arrived. Local residents rushed in to douse the flames, but by then, everything had been turned to ashes.

The shop was the widow’s only source of income. Having lost it all, she is now in a state of utter despair and has appealed to the government for immediate support and assistance. She also suspected foul play, believing the fire may have been intentionally set by miscreants.
