DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh College was established on June 15, 1945 and was recognized as Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi College (DHS Kanoi College) in 1950 and as an autonomous college by the University Grants Commission on April 17, 2025.

The college takes special steps in the advancement of technology. After Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia joined the college as the Principal on June 19, 2015, the academic, administrative, and infrastructural changes took place.

The college uses new technology to maintain transparency especially in the administrative aspects. It has successfully implemented an online voting system for conducting student union elections as well as registering regular students’ attendance through Learning Management System (LMS) in online mode. Recently, all administrative functions of Kanoi College were made paperless using LMS software. This has reduced the use of paper in the administrative area of the college by about 80 percent.

The college has been able to maintain administrative transparency by exchanging all government documents through LMS software. The decision to procure materials through the ‘GeM’ method has made it easier for the college to operate.

Managing administrative functions through LMS software has accelerated the pace of work more than ever before. The teachers, staff, and students of the college as well as the parents are delighted with the use of such technology to conduct administrative work in the college.

After being recognized as an autonomous college, four new subjects have been introduced in the college namely ‘Biotechnology’, ‘Journalism and Mass Communication,’ ‘Performing Arts,’ and ‘Tea and Agro Studies’ respectively. The college also introduced ITEP this year. It is expected that students interested in such subjects will benefit from this.
