DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi Commerce College (DHSKCC), a prestigious institution for higher education in commerce, observed the 102nd death anniversary of Bholanath Borooah, a pioneering figure in Assam's commerce sector, on Friday. The event was organized by the college administration in collaboration with the Bholanath Borooah Study and Research Cell (BBSRC).

The programme started with the offering of floral tributes in front of the portrait of the Assamese business hero, along with the lighting of earthen lamp and incense sticks by Dr Joydev Gogoi, Principal of the college, and Secretary of Bholanath Borooah Study and Research Cell (SBBSRC).

In his speech, Dr Gogoi highlighted the contributions and roles of the great business icon as well as other ideal individuals in Assam's business landscape. The principal also informed the gathering about the various initiatives taken by the college and the Bholanath Borooah Study and Research Cell (SBBSRC) regarding expansion of ideals of the great business icon.

Sailen Gogoi, Vice-Principal and Deputy Secretary, Sadagar Bholanath Borooah Study and Research Cell (SBBSRC), also delivered a speech in the function, highlighting the life and achievements of merchant Bholanath Borooah besides describing his generosity towards various social works in different parts of Assam and the country, particularly in establishing institutions as well as the context of the introduction of postgraduate course for Assamese at Calcutta University.

Dr Bidisha Mahanta, Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, also delivered a speech in the memorial programme. During her speech, she urged the society to follow the footprints of Bholanath Borooah.

Keshabananda Haloi, Assistant Professor, Department of Accountancy, also spoke on the occasion. Haloi, during his speech at the event, illuminating the life and philosophy of Assam's trade hero, emphasized the society's role in guiding the new generation to follow the principles set by the personalities like Borooah. The memorial function, attended by the teachers and staff of the college, unanimously decided to urge the state Government of Assam  to include a lesson on Sadagar Bolanath Baruwa in the secondary education syllabus and also to name the 'Assam Skill University' at Mangaldai after Sadagar Bolanath Borooah.

Dr Nabjyoti Dutta, the Coordinator of the research cell under 'Sadagar Bholanath Baruwa Study and Research Cell'(SBBSRC), and the Head of the Assamese Department of the college, attractively  anchored the memorial ceremony and also offered the sincere vote of thanks at the end of the programme.
