DIBRUGARH: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dibrugarh district today staged a protest at Chowkidingee against the Rs 5000 crore National Herald case. Members of BJP raised slogans against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi for their alleged involvement in the scam.

Speaking to mediapersons, State Power Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan said, “Today, we have organized a protest against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi for their involvement in the Rs 5000 crore National Herald scam. They are already in bail. We demand their arrest immediately.”

“There were many corruption cases during Congress rule but the National Herald case is one such scam where Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are directly involved. We want their immediate arrest,” Phukan stated.

Dibrugarh district BJP President Dulal Borah and Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) Mayor Dr Saikat Patra participated in the protest programme.

The National Herald case is the result of a legal process initiated more than a decade ago. The case is based on a complaint filed by Dr Subramanian Swamy in 2012 and has withstood rigorous judicial scrutiny. Both the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India refused to quash the case, dismissed the petitions, and allowed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to proceed with the matter.

The ED commenced its investigation in 2021, and on April 15, it filed a chargesheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
