DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh University and the ICFRE-Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday to foster collaborative research and joint initiatives in natural resource-based sustainable utilization, value addition, and livelihood promotion in Northeast India.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Professor Jiten Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University. Dr. Prasanta Kumar Kakoty (Registrar in-charge) represented Dibrugarh University, while Director Dr Nitin Kulkarni signed on behalf of the ICFRE-Rain Forest Research Institute.

This partnership aims to explore a wide spectrum of joint activities, including research on climate change and advancements in plant technology.

It is expected to open new avenues for scientific study and innovation in these fields. Prominent attendees at the bilateral meeting included Professor Bibhuti Bhusan Kakoty from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Deepsikha Bora, Dean of Biological Sciences, Dibrugarh University and Professor Dipak Chetia, Dean of Research and Development at Dibrugarh University.

Dibrugarh University has consistently prioritized scientific research and academic development since its establishment, underscoring its commitment to fostering research-based academia and innovation.

The potential areas of collaboration include research, training, conservation, utilization and management of forest-based resources, capacity building experience sharing and knowledge management, augmentation of natural resources based sustainable livelihood for the people.
