DIGBOI: The department of Corporate Communication Digboi Refinery in its formal communication on Wednesday morning acknowledged the validity of the media content titled ‘Neglected giant trees pose grave risk to human lives’  appeared in The Sentinel on its Wednesday edition.

Terming the content of the news as “genuine affecting the safety of the community”, an official of the corresponding department re -affirmed the commitment of Digboi Refinery towards the well being of the people of the historic Oiltown.

“The AOD (DR) management has always been committed to the people of Digboi. This is a serious matter, and the management of Digboi Refinery assures that it will be resolved promptly,” states the formal communique.

“The cutting and pruning of trees around Digboi Township is a routine task, and we have been informed that the work will commence today itself,” added the message.

“Although cranes were temporarily unavailable due to recent shutdowns, Indian Oil has always prioritized safety, ensuring the well-being of people in the surrounding areas. We are confident that this work will be completed as soon as possible,” assured the management.

Sources at the AOD informed that due to co-ordination gap between the upper hierarchy and the civil department (Township), the pertinent issue despite repeated prayers had failed to draw the attention of the top management at the right earnest. Sensing the potential hazards involved therein, Rahul Prashant the Executive Director (ED) Indian Oil-cum-Refinery Head also expressed thankfulness for sharing the content.

It may be recalled here that huge branches of mammoth trees within the premises and above the residential structures of Gurudwara at Telkhad area including the AOD Central Digboi have posed potential risk to human lives and properties in and around.

The gravity of the situation could well be understood based on a previous incident involving a tragic death’ of an AOD employee earlier in 2012 caused after being hit by a branch of the tree falling upon in the same area.

The management Gurudwara has also expressed gratitude towards the corporation for taking up the matter on priority.
