Guwahati: Guwahati: Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, the Director-General of Police, Assam, has reportedly tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus on Monday, August 10.

Reportedly, the Director-General of Police is undergoing home isolation after testing positive for the dreaded virus.

According to reports, Mahanta's driver has also been infected with the virus. However, his security guards have tested negative for the coronavirus.

The Assam DGP was suffering from fever since yesterday and was tested for the infectious disease today.

Mahanta's 'positive' status has come to the foreground at a time when several of the Assam police personnel have been infected by the respiratory disease.

Tio date, 2,259 police personnel of the Assam Police force have tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus. The recovery rate, meanwhile, is also exemplary. Out of the infected personnel, 1,734 have recovered from the virus and rejoined duties.

The Sentinel Digital tried reaching out to the DGP for his comments, but he was not available. Several leading personalities from the country have been so far been infected by the infectious virus.

Earlier today, former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has become the latest high-profile personality in the country to become infected with the dreaded coronavirus.

The 84-year-old Pranab Mukherjee informed that while visiting the hospital for a separate procedure, he was tested for the coronavirus and his swab tested positive for the dreaded virus.

The former President has appealed all the persons who have been in close proximity to him over the past few days to get tested for the virus.

"On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19", Mukherjee wrote in his tweet, along with the hashtag "CitizenMukherjee."
