TEZPUR: The monthly meeting of the District Development Committee (DDC) was held on Wednesday at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office in Sonitpur. The meeting was chaired by District Commissioner Ankur Bharali. Present at the meeting were District Development Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, Co-District Commissioner of Dhekiajuli Dyotiva Bora, Co-District Commissioner of Naduar Manash Kumar Saikia, Additional District Commissioner Twahir Alam, and heads of various departments under the district administration.
In his opening remarks, District Commissioner Bharali urged all officials to resume their regular responsibilities with renewed urgency following the conclusion of the Panchayat election. He emphasized the timely implementation of key government flagship programmes.
Bharali also discussed the need to address infrastructure and logistical requirements for the newly-announced co-districts of Barchalla and Rangapara, which will soon be made functional as per the State Government’s directive.
In view of the approaching monsoon season and potential flood risks, the District Commissioner sought updates from the Water Resources Department on critical matters such as embankment repairs, removal of encroachments, and other related concerns. He also instructed the Fishery Department to raise awareness among fish farmers regarding safe practices during and after floods, and to strictly monitor the use of banned fishing nets and methods.
The Irrigation Department was directed to coordinate closely with the Agriculture Department, especially with regard to the implementation of PM-KUSUM and related procedures. Issues related to the repair of non-functional and already handed-over Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) schemes, as well as the functioning of such schemes on forest land, were also discussed.
Special attention was given to the need for strict monitoring and enforcement of traffic regulations on the Kaliabhomora Bridge, particularly in relation to overspeeding. The DC also stressed the importance of expediting work on the plastic waste management units at Balipara and Rangapara.
Other topics discussed included the need for effective coordination between the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Health Departments for timely updates on the NHM-JJM app, and progress under various ongoing schemes including DoHUA, PWD (Buildings and Roads), Social Welfare, CMAAA, and PM Vishwakarma. Towards the end of the meeting, the Joint Director of Health Services urged all departments to raise awareness at their level about the dangers of mushroom poisoning. He stressed upon the need to educate the public against consuming wild mushrooms and to encourage them to seek immediate medical assistance in case of suspected poisoning.
