Assam: District Road Safety Committee meet held in Sonitpur

TEZPUR: The meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) of Sonitpur was held today in the Conference Hall of the District Commissioner’s Office, Sonitpur. Presided over by the Co-District Commissioner of Naduar Raj Boruah, the meeting reviewed and discussed the current status of road safety measures implemented in the district.

At the outset, Boruah directed all concerned departments, that have yet to nominate an officer or staff member for data entry into the iRAD and DRSC portal, to do so immediately. He emphasized that timely nominations would ensure proper training of the designated personnel, thereby making the data entry process more accurate and efficient.

Officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) apprised the meeting of the ongoing regular maintenance work under their jurisdiction in Sonitpur. This included debris removal, maintenance of road signage, and cleaning dust off existing signages. Meanwhile, representatives from the Public Works Roads Department (PWRD) briefed the committee on various road safety measures undertaken on the Bindukuri-Rangapara Road. These measures include the construction of speed breakers, rumble strips, and the installation of signages at vulnerable spots.

The meeting also included updates on the Chota Cop initiative. Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Madhurima Das reiterated the importance of awareness drives in accident-prone areas and other vulnerable locations.

Superintending Engineer, PWRD, Sonitpur and Biswanath Road Circle-cum-Member Secretary of the DRSC, Sonitpur Ajit Kumar Medhi, along with all concerned stakeholders and committee members, were present at the meeting.
