Assam Doctor Assault Case: Total 28 People Arrested

Guwahati: After arresting 26 people involved in the physical assault case of Dr Seuj Senapati at Lanka in the Hojai district, now another two, i.e., all the total 28 people have been arrested.

Assam Special DGP, GP Singh posted on Twitter about the case. He tweeted, "Total 28 persons have been arrested till now in the Doctor assault case of Hojai. Efforts on to submit charge sheet within mandated time period. " He said that appropriate sections of Epidemic Diseases Act, as amended in 2020 have been added to the case.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati the doctor who was brutally attacked by relatives of a patient at the Covid Care Centre at Udali in Hojai, Assam on June 1.

He was attacked by over 24 relatives of a patient including women. The relatives lost their cool after their patient died within hours of being hospitalised. They started hitting Dr Senapati and kicking him as the doctor lay on the ground. After arresting 24 people involved in the physical assault case of Dr Senapati at Lanka in the Hojai district, another two persons have been arrested on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, CM Sarma took stock of the health condition of the injured doctor who is undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), as he got a bone fracture in his face. CM met the family of Dr Senapati and interacted with them.

He complimented Dr Senapati and thanked him for his sincere and dedicated service during these stressful COVID times and offered Dr Senapati a posting of his choice at a place where he would like to work after he recovers. The Chief Minister once again reiterated that all those involved in attacks on doctor will not be spared and acts of violence against doctors will not be tolerated.
