Guwahati: In a recent development, a Dibrugarh-based doctor, who allegedly poured boiling water on a 12-year-old boy, has been absconding.

As per reports, a team of Milan Nagar police outpost on Wednesday went to arrest Dr. Siddhi Prasad Deori from his residence at Milan Nagar in Dibrugarh town.

The police officials had to wait for hours to enter the doctor's residence.

After waiting for long hours in the doctors' residence, the police team informed the district magistrate.

Later, the police personnel entered Dr. Deori's residence by climbing the gate of his residence in front of the district magistrate.

According to sources, the rooms of Dr. Deori's residence were locked from inside and pet dogs were kept open to prevent the police to go inside the home.

Police searched their home for hours but failed to trace Dr. Deori and his wife.

Additional superintendent of police (HQ) Padmanav Baruah stated, "We have registered a case under the Child Labour Act and Juvenile Justice Act at Dibrugarh police station. We are searching the accused, Dr. Siddhi Prasad Deori and we will take action as per law."

The 12-year-old child had been working as a domestic help in Dr. Deori's home.

The child was rescued by the Social Welfare Committee of Dibrugarh.

The minor had been living with Dr Siddhi Prasad Deori and his wife Mitali Konwar for the last one year.

Notably, Dr. Deori is a physician while his wife Mitali Konwar is the principal of Moran College.

Speaking to media, the child said for one-and-half years he had been staying in Dr Deori's house.

The child said that he used to do domestic chores, wash vehicles, etc. and was frequently beaten with a cane.

On August 31, the child welfare committee has filed a police case against the doctor who is yet to be arrested.
