
GUWAHATI: The chilling double murder of two young siblings that occurred in Tangla town under Assam's Udalguri district has brought this region to a complete and utter standstill.
The gory incident has sparked widespread grief and anger. Citizens and the family are calling for justice and asking that this gruesome crime be looked at thoroughly.
The brothers were allegedly kidnapped and murdered on Friday, which has led to protests all over the region since then. On Monday, a sea of protesters led by the grief-stricken mother, Geeta Sarmah, demonstrated outside the Tangla Police Station.
Hundreds of protesters joined her in demanding accountability not only against the prime accused but also anyone who may have been an abettor to the crime.
The protesters included members of various organizations such as the Bir Lachit Sena, Raijor Dal, and AKRSU. They called for a swift trial and severe punishment for the perpetrators.
Additionally, there have been demands for the police to investigate the possible involvement of the victims' stepbrother, Neeraj Sarmah.
The last rites of the young victims were performed on Monday, and the sorrow and outrage were palpable. Hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their respects. Later that evening, a candlelight vigil was held at Tangla Chariali, where citizens reiterated their calls for justice and accountability.
The law enforcement authorities, including Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Udalguri, Muzzafar Hussain, and Bhergaon SDPO Durga Kingkar Sarma, addressed the protesters.
They assured that a proper investigation would take place and that a charge sheet would be filed against the arrested persons within no time.
Despite these reassurances, the anger in the community has not cooled off. Citizens remain committed to seeing that justice is served and continue to pledge to keep the pressure on until all those responsible for this crime are brought to book.
The double murder has not only shaken a family but an entire community. The region continues to watch the unfolding of events with the case, united in its demand for justice and a resolution to this heartbreaking case.
