NAGAON: One drug mafia identified as Hekmat Ali was injured in police firing in the wee hours of Tuesday at Nagaon Borghat bypass Chariali. The injured drug mafia was immediately admitted in Nagaon BP Civil Hospital where the doctor on duty referred him to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. Sources claimed that the drug mafia was arrested along with suspected narcotics substance like brown sugar from Samaguri Bajiagaon area by a police team led by SDPO, Kaliabor. Police also recovered cash of Rs 32,000 from his possession and seized his luxury car bearing registration number AS02AM 5097 on the spot. Based on his statement, police took him towards Nagaon Borghat bypass to conduct another raid to trap a drugs dealer. But when the police vehicle reached Borghat bypass Chariali, suddenly attacking on the police personnel, the arrested drug mafia tried to escape from police. Having no other option to stop him, the police personnel fired at him. As a result, the drug mafia sustained bullet injury on his right leg.
