GUWAHATI: In the ongoing anti-narcotics operation in Assam, Sukchar Police Station conducted a raid at Bangrichar, leading to the seizure of 90 Yaba tablets, Rs. 28,000 in cash, and mobile phones. One individual was arrested during the operation, which was carried out under videographic documentation to ensure transparency.
An FIR has been filed, and legal proceedings are underway as authorities work to uncover further links in the drug network. The operation highlights the commitment of Sukchar Police to combating narcotics in the region and ensuring the safety of its residents.
Earlier this month, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the seizure of drugs worth Rs 1 crore in Cachar. In another operation at Digharkhal Toll Gate, Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle entering Assam from a neighboring state.
The operation led to the recovery of 8,640 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate and two kilograms of ganja. One person was apprehended in connection with the case.
In a different anti-narcotics operation, Tinsukia Police busted a drug smuggling network, arresting two smugglers and a local peddler. Acting on intelligence, a team led by Additional SP (Crime) Nishant Saurabh apprehended Bitu Gohain and Natey Ekka near New Tinsukia Railway Station after their arrival on the Avadh Assam Express from Dimapur.
Four plastic bags of heroin were seized. Also, local peddler Biki Bora was arrested at Dohutia Chuk with banned substances. All accused were charged under the NDPS Act.
