Assam : Drugs Worth Rs 407 Crore Seized In Guwahati In 2022

GUWAHATI : As per the latest report, drugs worth Rs 407 crore has been seized in the year 2022 by Guwahati police. Diganta Borah, the Guwahati Commissioner of Police informed that the ratio has increased to 167.2% in 2022 from 104.18% in 2021. 

A seizure of worth Rs 548.53 crore was done by Assam police in the year 2021. Among the total drugs caught in 2022, more than 200 crore included psychotropic tablets. Several drug smugglers and peddlers got apprehended by the police from varied regions across the state. 

These arrests and seizures has been made after the launch of massive war against drugs by Assam police. Moreover, in order to provide help and assistance the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam in collaboration with the narcotics department, New Delhi, have initiated training programmes. 

Furthermore, an app has been created to track down usage, sale and supply of drugs in the state. The app has been named as 'Drugs Free Assam' which will give access to the public to update information related to illicit substances. 

It is worth mentioning that in a recent phenomenon, a mosque and Kabristan committee did not attend the burial of individuals who lost their lives due to drug consumption or were related with any such activity. This step has been taken to demonstrate support on the war against drugs in the state. 

Talking about the amount of seizures in Assam, heroin worth Rs 95,78,40,000, brown sugar worth Rs 1,29,89,600, cannabis worth Rs 19,76,80,150, cocaine worth Rs 8,20,000, morphin Rs 1,84,00,000, methamphetamine worth Rs 74,88,00,000 and the list goes on. 

Approximately 240 cases were registered from several parts and 413 people were arrested. Apart from people, vehicles were also seized in this connection. 43 motorcycles, 15 heavy vehicles and 30 light vehicles were recovered by the police.
