Assam: Drunken Youths Assaults Pregnant Woman In Jorhat, Gets Arrested

GUWAHATI: The Jorhat Police in Assam detained four people, including a woman, on Sunday in connection with the assault on a pregnant woman and her family members on Holi night.

The four accused were taken into custody by Lichubari Police in Jorhat, days after the victim woman's husband filed a complaint. This comes after the victim's family complained about the Jorhat Police's alleged inaction despite complaints being made against the group of intoxicated youngsters who assaulted them.

They were identified as Angshuman Dutta, Babu Phukan, and Sunny Phukan by the Jorhat Police. The woman engaged in the case has not yet had her identity made public.

The event happened on the evening of March 8 when the family arrived back at their residence at the ABG Apartment in the Bongal Pukhuri neighbourhood of Jorhat. The spouse apparently honked at the youths, who were obstructing their access to the flat, which infuriated them.

The images of the pregnant lady being dragged by her hair while the other group members attacked the family members were caught on tape.

As the victims arrived in their automobile in Jorhat's Bongal Pukhuri, the offenders—roughly three to four men and a woman—were drinking in the middle of the road. They had to honk at the offenders in order to pass, which reportedly enraged the inebriated teens.

They attacked the pregnant mother and her family while intoxicated and dragged the woman by her hair. Security footage from the residence in Jorhat's Bongal Pukhuri captured the entire scene.

Subsequently, the woman's husband went to Jorhat's Lichubari Police Station to file a complaint. He claims that the cops haven't done anything about the situation yet.

The spouse asserted, "The inebriated woman resides in the flat; the men were guests. As we arrived in our car, they were drinking and sitting in the middle of the street in front of the apartment. I had to honk at them because we couldn't pass, and that caused them to halt their vehicle. They began to mistreat and manhandle my wife and me as soon as we got out of the car while intoxicated. Was honking at them and requesting that they move, against the law?” questioned the spouse who lived at the apartment at Bongal Pukhuri in Jorhat.
