GOLAGHAT: The Borluit Foundation, an organization registered under the Department of Cooperative Affairs, Government of India, has been conferring the Assam Jyoti Samman and the Person of the Year award since 2020. This time, the award ceremony was held by the Barluit Foundation at Sonapur in Kamrup Metropolitan district to coincide with Veer Chilaraya Diwas.
The award is given by selecting individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of society, literature, sports, and culture. The awards were given in the meeting conducted by Dibyajyoti Das, President of Barluit Foundation. Dr Maniram Kalita, Lecturer, Department of Assamese, Sonapur College, Rajen Tumung, President, Kamrup Metropolitan District of Bhaiyam Karbi Sahitya Sabha, Phanicharan Kakati, Retired Headmaster of Jorabat Primary School, Ajit Das, President of Dimaria Journalists’ Association were present as special guests.
The Barluit Foundation conferred the Best Person of the Year award on Assam Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Kiran Chandra Nath. Diganta Bailung, a well-known social activist and resident of Kasupathar Village in the Khumtai constituency of Golaghat district, and Dwipanvita Duwara, a social worker, have been conferred the Assam Jyoti Samman. Diganta Bailung, who has been publishing articles in various newspapers of Assam, has published two collections of books titled Assamese Language Jaijatra and Assamese Language vs Classical Language of India.
The Borluit Foundation also felicitated Kamrup Metropolitan District BJP President, social worker Tapan Das, sportsman Julie Sarkar, journalist Dr Kukil Baruah, Aichengpha Konwar, Palash Phukan, Joynal Abedin of Asom Yuva Parishad.
