Assam Election 2021: 11 Candidates File Nominations in 4 LACs of Lakhimpur District

LAKHIMPUR: In the wake of issuing the Gazette Notification regarding the first phase Assam Legislative Assembly Election—2021 on March 2, the candidates of the major political parties of the State and the independent candidates are all set to take part in the polls in four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LAC) of Lakhimpur district. Notably, the polling will be held in four LACs of the district on March 27 along with other 43 LACs of the State.

On Monday, a total of 10 candidates in the district filed their nominations to the respective Returning Officers of their LACs concerned. In No.111 Lakhimpur LAC, present MLA and general secretary of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Utpal Dutta filed his nomination as AGP candidate before Khageswar Pegu, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer of the LAC. In addition to him, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Manab Deka and independent candidate Nirmal Payeng also filed their nominations on the day. Notably, a total of four candidates have filed their nominations in the LAC till date. Out of them, Birinchi Pegu filed his nomination on Saturday as the candidate nominated by Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI).

On the other hand, AGP candidate Jayanta Khaond filed his nomination in No. 110 Naoboicha LAC before ADC-cum-Returning Officer Utpal Borah. Similarly, octogenarian politician-cum-former Education Minister Premadhar Borah as independent candidate and All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Bhupen Kumar Borah as Congress candidate filed their nominations in No. 109 Bihpuriya LAC the before Returning Officer-cum-ADC Kulen Sarmah . State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley as BJP candidate, Lalit Pegu as Voter's Party International (VPI) candidate and Jyotika Doley as SUCI candidate filed their nominations in No. 112 Dhakuakhana LAC before Gurnel Singh, the SDO (Civil)-cum-Returning Officer of the LAC.

Notably, the last date for filing nominations in the four LACs of the district is March 9 as per schedule by the Election Commission of India for first phase election. The nominations will be scrutinised on March 10 while March 12 is scheduled as the last date for the withdrawal of candidature.
