Assam Election 2021: Age is Just a Number for 86 Centenarians in Assam's Golaghat

More than 8,000 voters above the age of 80 can cast their votes by postal ballot while 86 centenarians will witness this election in the district.

Golaghat: The Golaghat District Administration has geared up with all necessary preparations for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.

In order to alert and aware the voters to participate in the electoral process, extensive measures have been taken under the Systematic Voters Education & Electoral Participation programme popularly known as SVEEP. According to the Election officer of the Golaghat election district.

Notably, the District Administration has made all the necessary arrangements such as safe drinking water. separate toilets for men and women, proper signage, ramps, etc at the polling booths for the voters. On the other hand, persons above 80 years of age can also cast their vote by postal ballot as required. Such ballots will be collected from their home as and when required.

It may be mentioned here that there are 8,196 voters above the age of 80 who have been included in the electoral roll so far in the four assembly constituencies of Golaghat district.

There are 7,082 voters between the ages of 80 and 89, 1,028 voters between the ages of 90 and 99 and 86 voters above the age of 100.

There are 1.175 voters in the age group of 80-89 years. 177 voters in the age group of 90-99 years and 8 voters above 100 years in 93 Bokakhat Constituency.

Meanwhile, 94 Sarupathar constituency has a maximum of 2,181 voters in the age group of 80-89 years.

319 voters in the age group of 90-99 years and 32 voters in the age group of 100 years and above.

There are 2,222 voters in the age group of 80-89 years, 327 voters in the age group of 90-99 years and 32 voters in the age group of 100 and above in 95 Golaghat constituency.

Similarly, in 96 Khumtai constituency has a total of 1,504 voters aged 80-89 years, 205 voters aged 90-99 years and 14 voters above 100 years of age.

In addition, the Golaghat district has 2,672 specially-abled voters so far. Out of this 1,359 male and 1,313 female voters are there.

The Election Officer added that special arrangements will be made to provide wheelchairs or other means of transportations to the polling stations for the PwD voters if required.

However, it will depend on the availability of vehicles & requirements of the voters.
