LAKHIMPUR: The BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) has clinched victory in two seats of Dhemaji district in 15th Assam Legislative Assembly Election.

According to the poll result, declared on May 2, BJP-led alliance candidate Dr Ranoj Kumar Pegu has won the No. 113 Dhemaji LAC by securing a total of 87,681 votes. In the election Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu stamped the victory by defeating his nearest candidate Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Chittaranjan Basumatari who has secured 56,889 votes. In the LAC, Congress candidate Sailen Sonowal secured third position with 44,830 votes.

On the other hand, BJP candidate Bhuban Pegu who joined the party quitting the Sanmilita Gana Shakti, Asom, before the election, has registered his victory in No 114 Jonai LAC (ST) by defeating his opponent by a recordable margin of 1,10987 votes. In the election, he defeated Congress candidate Dr. Hema Hari Prasanna Pegu who secured 57,424 votes. Of the total 2,45,158 votes polled, Bhuban Pegu got 1,68,411 votes.
