GOLAGHAT: Election campaigning has intensified in the 103 No. Golaghat Legislative Assembly constituency, with both ruling and opposition parties actively engaging voters.

Due to recent constituency delimitation, the geographical boundaries of the Golaghat constituency have undergone significant changes. Several gram panchayats from the Padumoni Development Block, known as strongholds of Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, have been included in the Dergaon constituency. Meanwhile, Bekajan (A) and Bekajan (B) panchayats from the Titabor constituency have been added to Padumoni Block. The constituency now has 268 polling stations, with a total of 2,01,653 voters, including 99,655 men, 1,01,986 women, and 2 third-gender voters.

The Opposition-backed candidate of the Indian National Congress, Bitupan Saikia, has been focusing on grassroots-level campaigning instead of large rallies. He is conducting door-to-door campaigns across villages, tea garden areas, and urban localities. Several Congress leaders and workers are actively supporting his campaign across the constituency.

Bitupan Saikia has criticized the BJP-led government, led by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing it of failing to implement major promises, while highlighting welfare schemes implemented during previous Congress governments.

Ajanta Neog is reportedly facing anti-incumbency sentiment, with criticism that she has spent much of her time in Guwahati rather than engaging at the grassroots level.

While the main electoral battle is expected between the Congress and BJP, predicting the outcome remains difficult. However, current observations suggest that the ruling BJP is facing a strong challenge in the constituency.
