TEZPUR: The Assam State Election Commission reviewed the preliminary preparedness of the upcoming Panchayat Elections in the state during a meeting held on Thursday at the conference hall of the District Commissioners’ Office, Sonitpur. In today’s meeting, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar, IAS (Retd), accompanied by Secretary of State Election Commission Gitartha Baruah and Inspector General of Police (Central Range) Devojyoti Mukherjee, IPS, discussed the preliminary preparations for the panchayat elections in the five districts of Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Nagaon, and Hojai.

The district commissioners of the five districts made presentations on the preliminary preparations for the panchayat elections in their respective districts. Matters related to the number of polling stations, training, availability of ballot boxes, requirement of manpower and transportation, strong room logistics, material distribution, and counting of ballots were deliberated upon along with other pertinent issues. The commissioner, in his closing remarks, underscored the role of the district commissioner in the panchayat elections and wished everyone success in the successful holding of the elections.

The meeting was attended by Sonitpur District Commissioner Ankur Bharali, Nagaon District Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, Biswanath District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, Hojai District Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati, Lakhimpur District Development Commissioner Ranjit Swargiyari along with Superintendents of Police, Panchayat Election Nodal Officers, Election Officers, DIOs, NIC and other senior officials of the five districts concerned.
