Assam: Entry of e-rickshaws into Nagaon town restricted

NAGAON: Nagaon district administration as well as Nagaon district transport department restricted the entry of all kinds of e-rickshaws into Nagaon town from Wednesday and those e-rickshaws which will flout this rule, the district administration as well as district transport department will initiate strict measures against them.

It is pertinent to mention here that the e-rickshaws often flout the basic traffic rules ensured by the authorities concerned and create unbelievable traffic congestion on road across the town and are also posing threat to the pedestrians. Besides, some drivers of such e-rickshaws are allegedly involved in various crimes like trafficking as well as selling of suspected narcotics substance, drugs, cannabis, kidnapping of school as well as college girls or children for quite sometime by pouring chloroform while traveling in such e-rickshaws in the town for which the district administration as well as district transport department is responsible.

While speaking to this correspondent this afternoon here, DTO, Nagaon, Sunit Kr Bora asserted that the entry of all kinds of e-rickshaws into the town was restricted from Wednesday as many drivers were allegedly involved in anti-social activities or crimes like trafficking and selling of drugs or other poisonous narcotics substances and also involved in heinous crimes like kidnapping of college girls and children across the town.

There is no other option rather than the strict restriction of its entry to the small town to stop such ongoing anti-social activities of those pilots of e-rickshaws, DTO Bora said, adding that these e-rickshaws are allowed only in rural areas. If any such e-rickshaw violates the latest directive of district administration as well as district transport department, legal action will be strictly taken against it, he reiterated.
