JAMUGURIHAT: The Biswanath district administration on Thursday extended ex gratia to the families of two persons who tragically lost their lives due to drowning in floodwaters under Naduar Revenue Circle on Wednesday.

A cheque of Rs 4 lakh each was handed over to the next of kin of Late Khem Saikia (75 years), resident of Magurmara village, and Late Dinesh Bhumij (40 years), a resident of Bejorhola village, who drowned on Wednesday after entering a paddy field submerged by flood waters of the Dikorai river.

Pallab Lochan Das, MLA, Biswanath LAC, accompanied by District Commissioner Karabi Saikia Karan, also visited Bejorhola village and inspected the area where floodwater has accumulated due to inadequate drainage and insufficient outlet capacity for water discharge. MLA Das assured appropriate measures for improving drainage and mitigating waterlogging in the affected area.
