Assam: Excise Dept Seizes Illegal Liquor, Destroys Over 3,400 Litres Liquor in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: An operation against the illegal production and storage of liquor is ongoing in the Sivasagar district. A raid was carried out under the supervision of the sub-inspector of the Excise Department in Borbam, Halowating, Lalime Chapori, Borahibari, and Danti, all under the Nazira excise circle, on July 11.

During the operation, six cases were registered. Officials seized four distillation machines used for brewing illegal liquor. Approximately 3,400 litres of fermented wine and 35 litres of illicit country-made liquor were destroyed on the spot. The Excise Department has reiterated its commitment to continue such enforcement drives.

Meanwhile, personnel of F/142 Bn CRPF, in coordination with the Excise Department, Golaghat Circle, conducted a targeted drive against the illegal production of country-made liquor on July 7.

Based on specific intelligence regarding the preparation of illicit liquor in the village areas of Tarani No. 1, Tarani No. 2, and Kolajan No. 6, a joint search operation was meticulously planned and executed.

In another similar incident, a team from Sonapur Police Station conducted an operation in the Byrnihat area on May 4, resulting in the destruction of 200 litres of illicit liquor. The police also seized 58 bottles of illegal liquor from Kamalajhari and the 14 Mile area as part of the crackdown.

Officials confirmed that the seized liquor was disposed of on the spot following legal procedures. The Assam Police highlighted their efforts to curb the distribution and consumption of illegal alcohol in the region through their official X handle.
