SILCHAR: An explosion in front of a construction company's base camp in Assam's Cachar district triggered panic among residents on Wednesday evening. The blast occurred at around 4:15 pm near the entrance gate of the base camp (project office) of Jandu Infratech Limited in Tarinipur, Part-III, about 7 km from Katigorah police station.

Despite the startling explosion, officials confirmed that there were no injuries or significant property damage as a result of the incident; however, a tree was found damaged.

"The loud sound created panic in the area," a local official stated, noting that the blast was localized to the area just outside the company's gate. Upon receiving the information about the incident, a team of Katigorah police rushed to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation.

Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta, speaking to Barak Bulletin, confirmed that the bomb was not of high intensity. "It's a gelatin-based bomb," he said from preliminary investigation, adding that he was on his way to inspect the site.

An unidentified caller demanded Rs. 10 crore from Jandu Constructions, leading to the arrest of four individuals earlier on February 21. However, the main accused remains at large.

In December 2024, two of its drivers were kidnapped in Manipur, allegedly by an NSCN faction, before being rescued by the Cachar Police in January of this year.
