
SONITPUR: In a significant operation on December 19, a joint team of Sonitpur Police and commandos unearthed dangerous explosives buried underground in the Rubber Bagan jungle area near Udangsri village, Batashipur, under the jurisdiction of Dhekiajuli Police Station in Assam.
The operation was launched after reliable intelligence indicating that the area contained secret storage of illegal arms and ammunition. The search team unearthed five hand grenades and five detonators after thorough inspection, all wrapped in a polythene bag.
After the recovery of the explosives, the law enforcement officers followed all legal formalities to ensure that proper seizure of the items was carried out. The explosives were taken to Dhekiajuli Police Station and put in safe custody for further investigation.
Earlier, Police in Assam's South Salmara-Mankachar district, with support from Kalapani Police Station, seized a substantial quantity of explosives from Barbilla's Amtenga region. During the raid, police recovered 760 explosive sticks and 400 CDET ALFA detonators, packed in 38 polythene bags containing 20 sticks each.
Alongside these, five bundles of detonators, 55 bundles of blue explosive wires, and various electric wires in different colors were also seized. Additionally, tools such as scissors, cutters, and six packets of white cement used for manufacturing explosives were found.
