GUWAHATI: Assam’s Minister of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Bimal Borah addressed the immense potential of Assam’s Agarwood Processing & Value Addition sector at the ongoing Advantage Assam 2.0 held at the Veterinary Science College Ground in Guwahati's Khanapara.

Highlighting that Assam has over 10 crore agar trees, Minister Borah noted that the state produces the finest agarwood, which is highly valued for perfumes, incense sticks, and traditional medicines. He emphasized that the Assam government has been implementing innovative policies and accelerating infrastructure development to boost the rapid growth of the agarwood industry.

The government’s Agarwood Policy 2020 is driving sustainable growth by easing procurement, processing & export under CITES regulations, providing Rs. 50 lakh capital subsidies, research funding & interest subsidies, supporting artificial inoculation to enhance resin production, and encouraging private sector participation and skill development.

With a world-class business ecosystem, Assam welcomes industry leaders & investors to be part of its Agarwood revolution. Let’s partner to make Assam a global hub for agarwood processing and value addition," Minister Borah wrote on his official handle X.

Furthermore, several MoUs related to investments in the agarwood sector were signed in the presence of Minister Bimal Borah at the conclusion of the event.
