Assam: Fake Currency Network Busted in Guwahati; Duo from Manipur Arrested

Preliminary investigation reveals that the duo brought the fake Indian currency notes from Noida and Delhi in order to exchange them in Guwahati.

GUWAHATI: In a significant move, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station, acting on intel, intercepted one Hyundai i20 (DL4C AX 0800) near the Audi showroom, Beharbari. During the operation, the team recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) from it.

The accused, identified as Wasim Wangmayum (21) from Lilong, Thoubal, Manipur, and Samurailatpam Prasanta Sharma (25) from Mantrikhong, Imphal, Manipur, were arrested by the police officials.

In addition, a Hyundai i20 with a key, a total number of 36 ₹500 fake Indian currency notes totalling ₹18,000, a Poco Android from Wasim, and an iPhone 15 Pro from Prasanta were confiscated.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the duo brought the fake Indian currency notes from Noida and Delhi in order to exchange them in Guwahati. The arrested duo is suspected to be part of a wider network. Further investigation is underway.

Similarly, acting on credible intelligence inputs, a dedicated team of Sonitpur Police arrested two individuals involved in the circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajesh Das (42 years), a resident of Forest Gate Village, Lokhra, House No. 60 under Dispur PS in Kamrup (M) District, and Keshav Saraniya (33 years), a resident of Dakshin Bogoribari, Boithabari under Barbari PS in Baksa District.

During the operation, the police recovered high-quality counterfeit currency amounting to ₹1,21,200. The seized fake currency notes consisted of 202 notes of ₹500 denomination and 101 notes of ₹200 denomination.
