SILCHAR: A shocking incident unfolded in Shiv Sundari Nari Shiksha Sevashram Hospital, a reputed and one of the oldest charitable health centres in Silchar as a person impersonating as a surgeon was arrested inside the operation theatre. The imposter identified as Pulak Malakar was apprehended on charge of treating patients without having any recognized degree, certificate or licence. Malakar even carried out surgery. The most surprising part of the incident was how Malakar could carry out such ill-practices in a reputed hospital where former MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, who himself is an ace orthopedic surgeon, is the General Secretary of the management committee of the hospital. Other eminent doctors are also actively associated with this hospital. In spite of such a reputation of the hospital, the criminal activities of Malakar went undetected for a considerable period, raising questions about the transparency of the hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Cachar SSP Numol Mahatta said, on the basis of a credible intelligence Pulak Malakar, 43, of Badarpur, impersonating to be a practicing gynecologist and obstetrician with a forged MBBS certificate and documents had been apprehended. The accused’s fake credentials were verified and during examination exposed to be fake ones. Malakar was arrested and produced before a court in Silchar.
