Assam: Farmer-scientist interaction programmes held in Tinsukia

Over 400 farmers joined crop & livestock sessions under Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at Maithong, Tongona in Tinsukia, led by KVK Tinsukia.

TINSUKIA: Farmer-scientist interaction programmes on crop and livestock management were held at Maithong and Tongona Gaon Panchyats as a part of the mega national campaign of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan across Tinsukia district under the aegis of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tinsukia on Tuesday where more than 400 farmers and farm women participated. This farmer-scientist interaction was supported by the Directorate of Extension Education AAU Jorhat. Dr Hemchandra Saikia, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Tinsukia, informed further that the main aim to conduct farmer-scientist interaction on crop and livestock management was to impart participating farmers with suitable knowledge and techniques for scientific and modern cultivation of crops and livestock management which can ultimately promote the enhancement of production, productivity, and income.

Scientists from KVK Tinsukia Mrinmoy Chetia, Priyanka Amonge, Dr Gautami Dutta, Dr Nilim Kalita, Dr Kripal Borah, Dr Sarodee Boruah, and Dr Bijit Saud provided suitable inputs to the participating farmers and ways to improve their livelihood index. This team also highlighted how to adopt improved crop cultivation and livestock management, how to enhance productivity and income in agriculture and allied sectors, better soil health management, water management, value addition, and processing and marketing to improve the economic condition of our farming community. Officials from various line departments also interacted with the farmers.
