Jorhat: A senior engineer was killed in a fire at an ONGC facility in Assam’s Jorhat district on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Borholla Group Gathering Station around 3:20 pm when a fire broke out in one of the heater treaters, equipment used to separate oil from water, during scheduled maintenance.

Rahul Dutta, a senior production engineer, sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The fire was quickly brought under control by the station's firefighting team.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. The company expressed condolences over the loss of the employee.

Earlier this month, a picnic bus caught fire in the Jagatpur Chowmuhani area of West Tripura, injuring several youths. The fire started from the bus's generator while the group was returning from a picnic at Brahmakunda and Bashgram.

Panic spread among passengers, forcing them to flee for safety. Local residents, along with fire and police personnel, quickly responded, rescuing the injured and taking them to the Mohanpur Community Health Center.

Six seriously injured passengers were referred to GB Pant Hospital for further treatment. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed concern over the incident, urging public safety precautions.
