GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident in Assam's Guwahati, a depressed father along with his two sons tried to commit suicide from Saraighat Bridge over the Brahmaputra River.

The incident took place on Wednesday 9 March when the man with his two children went to Saraighat Bridge and tried to jump ending their life.

However, police officials deployed at the site noticed the three people at the bridge and rescued them.

The victim has been identified as Bipul Kumar who runs a small roadside hotel located near GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital).

According to reports on Wednesday Kumar's hotel was totally destroyed by officials of GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) following the orders from the GMC official named Partha Pratim Baruah.

It was also reported that the GMC officials had repeatedly vandalized the roadside hotel of Kumar causing extreme loss to him as he manage the survival of his family through the hotel.

The man couldn't bear the loss this time after GMC demolished his establishment on Wednesday so he decided to kill himself along with his two children by jumping from the Saraighat flyover of Guwahati.

Kumar was emotionally broken by the incident and thought there is no other way than to end his life.

Fortunately, police came to know about the father children trio's intention at the bridge and took them from there. All the three were later taken to the Jalukabari Police station for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated by Guwahati police over the matter.

It may be mentioned that similar incidents related to suicide attempts have been occurring in the Saraighat Bridge located in the Amingaon region of Guwahati.

Earlier a few days ago in February this year, a boy from the city attempted to jump but a passerby noticed him sitting at the edge of the railing and rescued the boy confronting him.
