Assam: Ferry Service Between Jorhat-Majuli Reportedly Shut Down

Guwahati: The ferry service between Jorhat and Majuli has been shut down for an indefinite period of time following the heavy rains and rise in the water level of the Brahmaputra river.

According to media reports, it has come the fore that ferry services at Nimati ghat, Kamlabari and others will also remain suspended.

Reportedly, this comes into effect from today.

Notably, during the last few days, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal have been witnessing heavy downpour which has resulted in waterlogging and eventually affected the train services and road transport.

As many as three people lost their lives, while 24,681 people in 94 villages in six districts were affected due to incessant rainfall accompanied by flash floods in Assam.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Cachar, Dhemaji, Hojai, Karbi Anglong West, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metro) have been affected due to floods and three people including a woman died in landslide incidents in the Haflong area in the Dima Hasao district on Saturday.

Since the water levels are continuously rising in the Borkhola area of the Cachar district, the district administration has immediately approached the Assam Rifles and together they managed to rescue people stuck in the floods to relief camps.
