Guwahati: The Assam Finance Department on Wednesday has released funds as directed by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Finance Department has taken three major steps such as:

• 4321.6 lakh released to help Containment Zone/Home Isolation people and other COVID patients in 34 districts of the state.

• 167 crore open to beneficiaries of the Finance Department's Orunodoi scheme part.

• Rs 9020.96 lakh sanctioned for grant of scooty to students who have passed out of good fame in Higher Secondary Examination.

On Wednesday, the Assam Cabinet gave the go-ahead to several key proposals including providing 100% free power to any new Oxygen plant set up in the state or any of the oxygen plants are revived. The meeting chaired by the CM took several other important decisions to avert any Oxygen crisis in the State.

"If any new Oxygen plant is set up, State Govt would provide 100% free power supply. For reviving closed Oxygen plants, 100% free power would be provided. In case of expansion of the existing plant, the new unit would be given free power. All existing Oxygen plants would be given 20% free power," an official press release informing about the Cabinet decisions said.

As Ajanta Neog becomes the first woman Finance Minister of Assam, she said on Thursday that the government's top focus would be to fast-track implementation of all the promises made by BJP and its allies AGP and UPPL in the run-up to the Assam Assembly elections, 2021. Neog said that the committee set up under her chairpersonship to look into the issue of giving jobs to one lakh unemployed youths of the State would sit within a month and submit a roadmap at the earliest possible. The BJP had promised that if voted to power, it would give employment to one lakh unemployed youths of the state every year. The committee would also look into vacancies in different Assam government departments so that the respective departments can start recruitment.
