GUWAHATI: The first 'Radar Speed Detection' machine of Assam has been installed on the National Highway in Guwahati. This cutting-edge technology serves the purpose of accurately detecting and monitoring the speed of vehicles.

Two devices have been set up on both sides of the national highway at Guwahati's Betkuchi locality as an experiment. The real-time speed of vehicles will be displayed on the machine, thereby acting as a deterrent to drivers crossing the speed limit.

However, whether the devices will automatically penalize vehicles based on the displayed speed is not yet clear and it remains to be seen. Reportedly, more than 20 such devices will be installed at important locations across the city.

Interceptors will continue to patrol the areas and monitor vehicles and take strict action against violators so as to ensure effective implementation.

By using this radar system, the law enforcement agencies will get access to real-time data which they can leverage in order to enforce strict action against traffic violations. It intends to bring down road accidents due to speeding.

This step stands as a testament of the Assam government's unwavering commitment of utilizing advanced technology for enhancing traffic management and to ensure safer roadways.
