Assam: Five Die in a Road Accident on Their Way to a Wedding

NAGAON: As the winter season starts, the risks of accidents also grow in the state of Assam. In a recent incident, five people died late on Monday night.

The accident was reported from the Hatiakhuwa region of the Nagaon district of the state of Assam. All five people onboard a car died when their vehicle collided with a truck on the busy highway.

The name of the deceased has been revealed by the police. They are Sanjai Das (26 years old), Bibek Das (26 years old), Samir Paul (25 years old), Bibek Sharma (26 years old) and Sandeep Paul (26 years old). All of them have been mentioned to be from the Kolakhuwa village under the Bokakhat police station of the Gologhat district.

The officer in charge of the Uluani police station, B Barman spoke about the incident. He commented, "The accident took place at around 10 pm on Monday. They were travelling in a personal vehicle from Bokakhat to Tezpur. The vehicle had a head-on collision with a truck coming from Tezpur to Kaliabor on NH-37. All the five passengers were rushed to the Jakhalabandha community health centre where they were declared dead."

Fog and driving under influence are suspected to be among the probable causes. The police also mentioned that the drowsiness of any of the drivers could also be a possible cause of the severe accident. The personal vehicle carrying the five youths was completely damaged in the accident while the truck received partial damages. Reports have mentioned that the truck drivers fled the scene immediately and efforts are still on by the police to nab the driver.

Another accident was reported from Tezpur wherein two people onboard a two-wheeler died after hitting a truck. The names of the deceased youths have been revealed as Biju Singh and Suman Talukdar.
