GUWAHATI: A five-member family from Dibrugarh, Assam, sustained critical injuries on Saturday when their vehicle plunged 50 feet into a gorge along National Highway-313 near Anini in Arunachal Pradesh. The accident occurred as the family returned home from a trip to the area.
The injured are Hitendranath Burhagohain, his wife Rekha Burhagohain, their sons Bedabrata and Debabrata Burhagohain, and daughter-in-law Pramila Singh.
Officials stated that Pramila Singh’s condition is extremely critical, while the others are also receiving intensive medical care.
The vehicle reportedly lost control on a challenging section of the highway. The steep terrain has complicated rescue operations, with local authorities and emergency responders working tirelessly to assist the victims and provide medical aid.
An investigation into the exact cause of the accident has been launched by Arunachal Pradesh Police. Authorities have also issued an advisory urging travelers to exercise caution, particularly during winter months when road conditions and visibility can be hazardous.
“This incident highlights the treacherous nature of NH-313. We urge all motorists to prioritize safety and remain vigilant while navigating such routes,” a senior official remarked.
Meanwhile, a road accident occurred in Guwahati's Jalukbari area on January 3 at approximately 11:40 PM, reportedly due to loose soil on the main road.
An eyewitness reported that a car skidded on the loose soil and collided with a parked vehicle. Another vehicle also lost grip on the slippery surface but regained control just in time, narrowly avoiding an accident. No individual has been reported to be injured in the accident.
