DHEMAJI: Five school students from Assam’s Dhemaji district, who went missing on Thursday, were rescued from Silchar railway station on Friday. According to Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta, the students had planned to travel to Mizoram and stay there.
Mahatta revealed that two of the students were carrying guitars, while one was a cricket player. During initial questioning, the students disclosed their intention to live in Aizawl and pursue a different career.
Dhemaji SP Hitesh Chandra Roy informed that the students had left for school on Thursday morning but did not attend. They were later found to have traveled to Rangiya, where they boarded a Barak Valley-bound train. A search operation was launched after Dhemaji police alerted the SPs of the three districts in Barak Valley.
The students were located at Silchar railway station and, upon being questioned, revealed their plan and agreed to return home. While it is believed that the students may have been trying to escape the pressure of exams, Roy emphasized that no conclusions could be drawn without further conversation with the students.
Cachar police informed the family members of the students, and following the direction of Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) Harmeet Singh, the students will be sent back to their homes.
