TINSUKIA: In a formal ceremony, five distinguished artists from the district were felicitated on Tuesday with the Silpi Award 2025 and the Silpi Pension scheme at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tinsukia. The recognition was conferred upon Pradeep Dohutia, Debeswar Moran, Bolin Chetia, Tileswar Tamuli, and Pranati Barua as a part of the state government’s efforts to honour artistic excellence.
The Silpi Award and Pension are typically presented during Silpi Diwas, observed annually on January 17 to commemorate the legacy of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala, a pioneer of Assamese culture. While the artists were selected earlier this year, they were unable to attend the official ceremony held in January. To ensure their contributions did not go unrecognised, a special felicitation event was organised on Tuesday.
Minister Bimal Borah presented the awards and pension benefits to the recipients, acknowledging their lifelong dedication to enriching Assam’s cultural landscape. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Borah extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the awardees, expressing pride in the artistic talent rooted in the Tinsukia district.
Earlier, State Minister for Panchayat & Rural Development, Tourism, and other departments, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, attended a landmark felicitation ceremony in Kokrajhar on May 30, honouring eminent artists who represented the Bodo traditional dance, Bagurumbha, on the national stage from 1955 to 1986.
