Assam: Flood-hit businessman brings hope to students with school uniform distribution

SIVASAGAR: Even after suffering heavy losses in the recent floods, a young businessman from Sivasagar has emerged as a beacon of hope for flood-affected children by distributing school uniforms to students across different parts of the district.

Pankaj Agarwal, who runs a cloth shop in Sivasagar town, has been actively carrying out plantation drives in and around the town since 2012. His commitment to social service continued despite the devastating floods that left his shop submerged under water for 19 days.

Instead of dwelling on his own losses, Agarwal stepped forward to support students whose families were badly affected by the floods. Agarwal, accompanied by his twelve-year-old son Shivam Agarwal, distributed school uniforms at various locations such as Lakhiminagar, Bhadhara, Chengelibari, Nimaijan, Solegaon, etc. to help children resume their education with dignity and confidence.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Agarwal said, "Loss is a part and parcel of business. But the loss of family members and the hope for the future is irreparable. Children are our future. Many children do not even have clothes left. At this hour, we need to bring a smile to their faces."

His humanitarian gesture has been widely appreciated by locals, who described it as an inspiring example of compassion and community spirit during one of the district's most challenging times.
