Assam Flood: Kokrajhar District Admin Orders Closure of All Educational Institutes

Guwahati: Kokrajhar District Administration on Friday announced to close all the educational institutions from 17 to 19 June due to the prevailing flood situation in the district.

''Consequent upon the prevailing incessant rain and flood situation in Kokrajhar district, it is hereby notified that all Educational Institutions (both Govt. & Private) under Kokrajhar district will remain closed we.f17 to 19: June 2022. This notification will come into force with immediate effect,'' an official notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner Kokrajhar read.

The incessant rain over the past few days in the state has submerged many places in Kokrajhar as water levels of all rivers and tributaries are flowing above danger level, thereby forcing people to take shelter in safe places in different places in the district.

The district which hasn't seen a flood in the last two years now has been reeling under flood as several wards under the Kokrajhar Municipal Board have been inundated with flood waters.

The River Gaurang which passes near Kokrajhar town is posing a threat to the citizens of Kokrajhar as it is flowing above the danger level since Thursday morning and there is clear apprehension of the more possible volume of water if Bhutan releases more waters from the dam.

In Kokrajhar town, places like Tengaoara, Rupathi Nwgwr, Swmdwnpuri, Mainaopuri, Naldangpara, Shantinagar, Gaurnagar, Subhashpally, and other adjacent places were submerged by flood waters on Thursday.
